Talking Books provides the opportunity to read state-of-the-art or seminal publications and to discuss them with the author(s).

Talking Books

Scope for academic year 2022/2023

We welcome students and scholars who share an interest in the field of critical migration, border and security studies and science and technology studies. In 2021/22 the event focused on feminist and postcolonial reflections, theories and methodologies. In 2022/23 recently published books about “Borders as Infrastructure” (Dijstelbloem), “Algorithmic Reason” (Aradau & Blanke), and “Suspect Identities” (Cole) are discussed.

For each book, people will meet in several online sessions - first without and then with the author(s). Critical points, reflections and conductive thoughts will be charted through collaborative writing tools. We explore the potential of the publications for future research and ask how they contribute to one’s own work. Finally, we stir a conversation between the publications.

Altogether, it is a starting point for a broader reflection on contemporary matters of technology, migration, borders, (in)security, and social order.

Talking Books is organised by: Andrea Berger, Olga Usachova, Mara Clemente, Nina Amelung, Vasilis Argyriou, Wouter Van Rossem

Program for 2024 will be announced soon
